Priceless Memories

Priceless

You never gave me a rose
to press between the pages
of my favourite book
or a necklace to nestle
close to my heart
I have no letters
you wrote me
through which to
relive the past

Never one for
grand gestures
you didn’t weave
an elaborate proposal
I could reminisce about
I have no box of mementos
tucked away in the attic
to pore over
on rainy evenings

But I carry with me
memories of tender hugs
and passionate kisses
loving smiles and gentle hands
your soft voice telling me
tomorrow will be better
All the more priceless
for they are now
an indelible part of me
and through them
so are you
