Dying Fires

Lukewarm

At first it was the burning

Flesh singed by inflamed flesh

set afire by your cool touch

turning me into molten lava

in which you drowned

Then, flames subsided

the eruption leaving me

a simmering shell

The fires died down

your now familiar hands —

less ardent — took longer

to ignite a spark

And now I lie dormant

trying to find warmth

in lukewarm embers

of fading memories
