Fleeting Pleasures

Enveloped in a fog
of despair
my world was cloaked
in eternal night
But just as I began
to notice the sun
shine again
just as its rays
rent through the black
for a glimmer of light
you brought the clouds back

Once my foolish heart
would have lit up
like a summer day
content to be at the
periphery of your life
But I am weary of
fleeting pleasures
leaving grief in their wake
Now I look for peace
and know I will find it
only in your absence
for there is none
in your presence
