Time suspended
in idle reminiscences
Life a tableau
staged on familiar faces
that bear the brunt
of experiences
I play with the pearls
now choking my throat
wanting to leave
but staying because
you are not here yet
Then you walk into the room

Everything changes

The air grows electric
my breath freezes in my throat
My heart pounds louder
than the drums of a rock band
My skin is slick with anticipation
My eyes wait to catch yours
But you never look at me

Nothing changes
