Love’s Story

When we first met we were so young and naïve
With stars in our eyes and dreams in our soul
Carelessly I wore my heart on my sleeve
Which, with sweet words and a bright smile, you stole

We frolicked in the gardens in the spring
Basked in the warm sunshine in the summer
In autumn, you gave me a diamond ring
Drifting snowflakes saw us wed in winter

But the seasons, they changed, and so did we
As the years rolled on, we drifted apart
We locked up love’s treasure and lost the key
Neither had the will to make a fresh start

Not all love stories have a happy end
But I am glad to still call you my friend
