In An Instant

The sun streams through the open window
gossamer curtains billow in the breeze
A bright morning full of promise

poisoned by a guilty face, clenched fists

Warm smile fades, joyous greeting dies on lips
A sudden chill pervades the room
whispered words roar in ears

vampires sucking the life out of the day

In an instant, a chasm splits
years of togetherness
silence fills relationship’s void
